Updated Cannabis Regulations Released

Cannabis is officially legal in New York State, and with that comes various regulations that will require the help of an attorney. NYS marijuana regulators recently took another step towards creating a regulatory framework for cannabis by approving a series of proposed rules for packaging, labeling, advertising, and testing requirements.

Some of these requirements include one brand name on the product with the required ‘THC label’ (including cannabinoid concentration and content), and packages must be child-resistant and tamper-evident with no appeal to underage users.  Additional measures were adopted to encourage environmental sustainability practices, such as limitations on single-use plastic and the sanitation of packaging for reuse.

Christopher Warren, Managing Partner at Warren Law Group states, “As the cannabis business grows, the regulations surrounding the industry will inevitably evolve over time. You should be sure your business is following all necessary regulatory compliance guidelines with the help of an attorney.”

If you are developing a cannabis product or company in New York State, you must seek an experienced regulatory attorney. The rules and regulations surrounding cannabis will inevitably evolve throughout the foreseeable future.  To best protect yourself and your cannabis business, stay up to date with the latest legal requirements.
